We brought back Celebrity Golf in 2017 and it was such an incredible success – raising over $45,000 to keep ice time free. So we’re doing it again in 2018! This year promises to be better than ever and we are asking for your support to become a sponsor. The tourney will be held on Saturday, July 28 at the Warroad Estates Golf Course with a banquet to follow at The Gardens Arena.
Here’s why Warroad is Hockeytown USA® and is widely known to produce such amazing hockey talent. It begins by ensuring we are doing all we can so that more than 250 kids in our town don’t have to pay for expensive ice time and can skate all they want on our two beautiful rinks —The Gardens and Olympic Arena.
GOING FOR GOLD!
February 22, 2018 was a local and national history making day. It’s the day that the USA Women’s Ice Hockey team played their hearts out and won an Olympic Gold Medal in PyeoungChang, South Korea. One of our own, Gigi Marvin, scored in the overtime shoot-out and Hockeytown USA® erupted with joy and celebration! The game wasn’t over quite yet … but when Team USA struck Gold, we again jumped for joy and were proud to have a young lady from our hometown achieve the dream and become a 3-time Olympic Champion — a new historic milestone!
DREAMS COME TRUE!
Yes, in Warroad Dreams Do Come True! No one can argue the fact that our tiny town of less than 1,800 produced eight Olympians! And an endless list of our kids advancing to the collegiate levels, junior hockey levels, and the National Women’s and Men’s professional hockey levels. Indeed … dreams do come true and having nearly unlimited ice time helps. Gigi often mentions that the free ice time allowed her to hone her hockey skills.
How can this even be possible? Well, it’s because of you and the community-wide passion to do what it takes to keep ice time free in Warroad. It takes a tremendous effort to fund-raise to keep the rink doors open 10 months of the year to offer free ice time, hockey games, tourneys, camps and clinics – or to just play some good old-fashion “shinny.”
